About Mark

My name is Mark Mohler, also known as Sanguine Teapots on digital media. I am a full-time craft potter, focused on teaware. I currently reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I’m passionate about local clays and materials. Ceramic work should reflect the place where it is made. Local geology forms the character of the material and informs how best to accentuate its strengths and weaknesses. I’m currently working in Lizella, a local single source clay from Georgia, and tile 6 kaolin, an industrial export of the State.

I have been a potter since 2007. I studied at the University of Georgia for four years, and completed a year long work-study in Taiwan under Peter Kuo.

New home, new studio, new kiln.

In 2020, I moved to Pittsburgh, PA. I wanted the stability necessary to build a studio. Potters need a lot of equipment, none of which is particularly mobile. Buying a home was the most logical and economical way to get the space I needed, so my partner and I did just that. We found a beautiful old house and we’ve been hard at work making it a home, office, studio, petting zoo (three cats and a Taiwan Mountain dog).

Since we moved in I’ve created or purchased all the moving parts for a production studio. I converted an old electric kiln into a gas kiln, and I moved all my equipment from my parents basement in Georgia. Now I get to dig in and develop my work under the most stable conditions I’ve ever had.
